A Career Devoted to Criminal Law
Jeffrey D. Parker is a Board Certified Criminal Law specialist who has dedicated his entire career to the practice of criminal law. Licensed in Texas since 1999, he has spent more than 25 years in courtrooms across the state — first as a prosecutor, and for most of his career as a criminal defense attorney and appellate advocate.
Mr. Parker earned his undergraduate degree from Baylor University and his law degree from Baylor Law School. He has tried more than 200 jury trials in courts ranging from municipal court to district court, handling everything from Class C misdemeanors to capital death penalty felonies.
Early in his career, Mr. Parker served as an Assistant County Attorney with the Bell County Attorney's Office, prosecuting misdemeanor criminal cases. He later served as an Assistant District Attorney with the Coryell County District Attorney's Office, prosecuting felony cases. That experience — understanding how prosecutors evaluate cases, build files, and prepare for trial — gives him a perspective most defense attorneys simply don't have.
Mr. Parker's appellate practice extends to all Texas intermediate courts of appeals, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in New Orleans. His substantial trial record informs every brief he writes: he knows how errors happen at trial, and he knows how to present those issues persuasively to appellate courts.
Beyond his practice, Mr. Parker is an active member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (TCDLA), where he serves on the Prosecutorial Conduct Committee and the Technology Committee. He also serves on the American Academy of Forensic Sciences Standards Board (ASB) Crime Scene Investigation Consensus Body, helping develop national consensus standards and best practices for crime scene investigation and forensic science.
Board Certification in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization requires years of focused criminal law practice, peer review by attorneys and judges, and a rigorous written examination covering Texas criminal law, federal criminal law, and legal ethics. Of the more than 118,000 attorneys licensed in Texas, fewer than 800 hold this designation in criminal law. Mr. Parker has been Board Certified since 2008.
